NEW: (hypothetically starring) VIC REEVES as LUKE SKYWALKER .. in "Waiting for Godot, the hollywood version".
FIRE CHIEF [moving towards the door, then stopping]: Speaking of which - what of the bald soprano? [General silence, embarrassment.]
Thrust of argument: Ionesco's 'La cantatrice chauve' is a short absurd play which demonstrates clearly some of the problems associated with our current mainstream approach to reason and identity.
Direction of resistance / implied resistance: The only mention in the entire play of 'la cantatrice chauve' (translated as 'the bald soprano' or even 'the bald prima donna') is in the line cited in the title of this grid point.

Removal of resistance: The play opens with this line:
MRS. SMITH : There, it's nine o'clock. We've drunk the soup, and eaten the fish and chips, and the English salad. The children have drunk English water. We've eaten well this evening. That's because we live in the suburbs of London and because our name is Smith.
Unification: The play teaches a great deal about the real meaning of what is insane in the world of 'today'.
Ionesco's plays deal with the madness brought on by the rise of corporatism and fascism which today has 'blossomed' into a powerfully all-encompassing 'consumerist' reality for most people.
(TVhobo's estimated size of readership since 2013, mainly in the UK and USA, with Germany in third place:
over 200,000 readers across approximately 200 cities/towns)
